Before you read this post, I want to stop and explain what it is about and who needs to read it. Often times, in my effort to communicate and educate the world, I confuse one or two of my recipients. That bothers me.
What is it? The Affordable Care Act has rules and timelines that are the law, which enable you to obtain, or change health insurance plans. This will give you the remaining 2016 timelines.
Who needs this? Individuals under age 65, not insured through your employer, who still need health insurance for 2016. If you have coverage through your employer, or are on Medicare, or already have submitted an application for 2016, you can simply read to gain knowledge and then share with the world, but know that you’re okay and don’t have to worry about the deadlines. (But please forward this to those you love. Their health may depend on it.)
Why? Because once we pass the deadline, there’s no getting health insurance without a Special Enrollment Period. And having insurance is the law. And I can’t help myself from wanting to be the continuous educator. And, and, and…when someone calls us for health insurance after the deadline, telling them no makes us sad.
- January 15th! Get an application for health insurance in by January 15th for a February 1st Start Date.
- January 31st! Get an application for health insurance in by January 31st for a March 1st Start Date.
If you miss the deadline, your option to buy health insurance may not be opened up again until 2017. If you don’t have health insurance, you’ll pay the IRS 2.5% of your household income, even if only one family members does not have health insurance.
January 15th is Friday. Please don’t wait until then. 972-203-8180
